You are right, SNS are commercial/entertaining and that is the point I hope I am driving at. How are we able to use them effectively as an educational tool or resource in schools unless for specific projects? Their nature is to be personal to be used educationally.

I'm interested in your work in creating such sites solely for schools, but even though these may be regulated by the school, don't we still run the same risks...students posting their own social stuff to intreract with their classmates during lessons? - how often will the administrator be able to censor these sites? will this then alter her/his existing and already burdened workload? - maybe there should be an external administrator just for schools?

The front door I refer to on SNS is the first page you see on somebody's site, so although there may be ways for people to access whats behind it, educators will still have to pass through the students personal stuff to access the assignments set, which is problematic in terms of the students privacy, peer conversations, child protection etc.
(And I agree, posting things on the internet is not safe -having said that I have recently joined facebook and going against all my previous principles, I still feel the need to post photo's etc!)

I think nearly all the SNS sites including blog sites are designed for commercial or entertain purpose instead of education aims. Since I started blogging a few years ago, I'v been keeping in mind the privacy issues. I don't think it's safe to publish your private info on the net even though it may have built up kind of 'front door'. I'm thinking of redesigning blogs or SNS or the combination of them just for education settings. The school administration should have the total control of all services in order to keep students away from any negative issues. What do you think?

ok, this is a new one on me..Zooped?! Having looked at the sites "front door" it seems as though it's the same as Myspace but hosting broader networking categories...business etc. Thanks for that, i shall investigate.
